John William Waterhouse

John William Waterhouse was born in Rome in 1859. His father William Waterhouse was a painter of his stepmother Jane the daughter of British Prime Minister Spencer Perceval. The father trained John William and later became a student of the English Royal Academy.

Waterhouse developed his own painting style, which led him from the Victorian painters to a mixture of classicism, romance, fantasy and realism and was very interesting. His genre paintings and landscapes were very popular, Waterhouse had artistic as well as commercial success.

In 1883, the painter married Esther Kenworthy, the daughter of a school teacher, and in 1917 died of cancer at the age of 68 in London. Well-known works by William Waterhouse are " The Lady of Shalott ", " Mermaid " and " Hylas and the Nymphs ". © Meisterdrucke
